Adele May Reynolds Zeigler

Adele May Reynolds Zeigler – Savannah – Adele May Zeigler, 96, of Savannah, departed peacefully on January 10, 2024, under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Dell spent a life filled with joy and purpose.

During her life, she was an avid bowler, dedicating many years to various bowling teams. She found immense joy in the kitchen, where her culinary talents shone brightly. Cooking was not just a skill for her; it was a form of expression showing her love for family and friends. Her home was a gathering place for countless shared meals and memories.

Family was at the center of Dell’s heart, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Holidays and summers on the dock were particularly special times, filled with laughter, love and the creation of timeless family traditions.

Her family fondly remembers her love of old movies, especially musicals. She also loved dancing, playing card games, and watching the Atlanta Braves. A favorite family memory was her love of watching The Price Is Right.

Dell attended Bible Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church, where her faith was a guiding force in her life. She found solace and inspiration in gospel music, with a special fondness for The Gaithers. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Charles Stanley.

She was born on September 22, 1927, to the late Harry Joseph Reynolds and Gertrude Wayne Sanders Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Warren (Bubba) Zeigler; sisters  Marjorie R. McDonough, Harriet R. Barras and Betty R. Slater; and brother Harry J. Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sons in law, Mike Barthelmess and Danny Blue.

She is survived by her four daughters, Linda Z. Blue, Cookie Z. Barthelmess, both of Savannah, Ga; Janet Z. Clark (Bobby) of Savannah and Sylvania, Ga; Angie Z. Staiti (Joe) of Cumming, Ga; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Service will be on January 16, 2024, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home on Hodgson Memorial Drive. Visitation will be from 10-11am, followed by 11am service, with Rev. Tommy East officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey East. Remembrances: Spanish Oaks Hospice.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael Barthelmess, Anthony Clark, Nicholas Staiti, Joseph Staiti,  and Christopher Staiti;  Great-grandsons Steven Hendrix and Landon Barthelmess; Grandsons in law Thomas Stainback and Patrick Ferreira.

Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but the memories of her laughter, kindness, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

GUEST BOOK

To Adele’s Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Dell was a special person. As a young child I was amazed that she and Margie were twins, since they were not identical. I loved the entire family. She will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

When I read the above Celebration of Life, I feel like I'm reading my mother's story who I lost in 1999. From a time of sorrow will come all the wonderful memories and then out of nowhere a long-forgotten image will come flooding back, when least expected, as if she is reaching out to say all is well. God be with you all as memories are shared and you grieve together.

- ROYANNE DONNELLY, CUMMING, GA

My memories of Miss Dell are so fond. Angie and I were classmates as well and many wonderful memories of our friends and the kids off the island hanging out at the Zeigler compound. For me, Miss Dell seemed to be everyone's mom/grandma, the "matriarch of Burnside Island". She was so loved!! Bubba & Dell always seemed to have an open door to children with sharing the gifts God provided to them. They loved the Lord and showed it with humbleness, faith and hard work. Dell was always in the kitchen preparing for some type of gathering or helping others. I look forward to the day when our families can all be united together once again in heaven with Jesus. They are missed so much!

Cookie, I am praying for comfort for you and your family, over the loss of your Mother.

- Linda Lair Futrell, Savannah , Ga.

Miss Dell was the hostess of many family events I had the privilege of being part of during my time in Savannah! The whole family embraced me and I know that Miss Dell taught them how! She was the matriarch of the family and I will not forget her and Bubba. Once again they are together - this time in Heaven with Jesus. Nothing could better than that! To all of the Zeigler tribe I extend condolences and lots of hugs. God bless all of you - remember Miss Dell’s lessons!
